IMAGE BACKSTORY: On the final night of the ceremony, the bonfire is ablaze. The cadence of the drums and Apache songs drift through the valley. At midnight, the maiden, her attendants, medicine men, and women enter the big teepee. The maiden will dance all night beneath the starlight sky and emerge a strong woman. ©Jan Butchofsky
